Great little machine

Love our K40.It was late arriving but the seller was very helpful providing tracking information and even offered us a 10% refund to compensate. Machine needed a fair bit of upgrades and tinkering but that was expected and we are really happy with our machine now. Over all it was great value for money

Good machine but only with upgrades

This is a good machine... BUT will only be a good machine if you do all the usual upgradesDo your research, replace the bed, fit an air assist, earth it (!) Etc etc. With all the upgrades, I'm loving it :)

Fantastic for the price and amazing if you spend some time on improvements

If your interested in the accuracy & quality of this, read on. Picture of the bed was after upgrade and picture of the machine was straight out of the box.I was a bit reluctant to buy this, since I was making use of a professional £10k+ cutter at a local maker space. However, I did want some more autonomy over my work. Others have covered in detail the shipping of this machine and general setup, but I want to focus (if you pardon the pun), what it will take to get the results up to a high standard.Obviously, the quality is what you would expect of a machine of this price, but keep in mind, it has plenty of room for improvement. I like to think, when you buy this machine, you have a £350 machine to start with.Unfortunately, the machine came down effectively not working. I needed to reconnect a cable for the Y axis and X axis control. That fixed the Y axis, but the X axis was jammed. Loosing the two bolts and retightening on that axis released it. After aligning the mirrors, the Y axis was straight and had very little play (0.1mm+-).The X axis however, was producing 1 to 2mm+- of "wobble". This seemed to be down to the laser head wheels being off centre. I think, looking at other reviews, I was just unlucky. This was resolved by installing a linear bearing rail on top of the X axis rail and printing a number of parts to hold the laser head. Now both axis are pretty within 0.1mm of play. I like to think now, I have a £2k machine now.Next up, I built a custom bed which hung on the internal frame and could be raised up 1mm at a time or finally through adjustment screws, complete with honeycomb. Its now producing cuts which are indistinguishable from the machine at my local maker space, minus the bed size.Next upgrade will be a laser dot, air feed and current meter. I haven't even got round to thinking about an upgraded controller board yet, because, I have yet to see the need.Overall, with a little bit of work, this machine will work a great and do most jobs you can throw at it. Spend some time tinkering and you'll have an amazing machine for the value.

Check your earth !! Absolute bargain.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  Ok this is difficult to review. TLDR Good enough for me to contemplate buying another one from this buyer. Now that I've done some bits to it it's an awesome piece of equipment for the price. I'm happily cutting 3mm birch ply. Before you plug it in, sand down the paint to bare metal around the earth wire so it's metal on metal or you're going to get a shock at some point. A big one. Once that's done you are pretty much good to go. It was extremely well packaged and came with the m2 board and a 700mm laser tube. All fitted and glued nicely into place. I had to align the mirrors and bed but that's pretty standard and there are tons of tutorials on YouTube. I can't rate the software as I used k40 whisperer and inkscape which are both free programs. It was supposed to take two weeks to arrive but came in three days. Be aware you are buying a budget laser. If you keep that in mind it's an absolute bargain. Temperature gauge wasn't connected but a bit of solder and it was sorted. If you can build an Ikea flat pack you'll be able to prepare and service this machine with a few online tutorials.

Cheap and chearful laser cutter/engraver

Have used for almost a year and no hiccups.Arived extreamlt well packaged and worked practically out the box (apart from conecting water pump/reservoir and exhaust). *shall mention onlt deionised water in the reservoir to prevent damaging the laser tube*Id advise researching b4 buying as there are a few minor problems present in all these lasers, however they are easy to remidy. Mainly,Earth/ground- most important, screwd onto painted metal, just unscrew sand and replace to get good contact.Wires in extractor fan- not properly insulated, also qick fix.Exhast flue- waste of time, got a cheapy 6m for £3 localy.Cutting bed- Made my own but can buy hight adjustable ones too.AndSoftware- never bothered with it. Use inkscape to draw up svg's and prosesed them with k40 wisperer all free open source software.I also got a cheap airbrush compressor to act as air assist and printed a nozzle, this prevents fires and damage to the sensative laser lense.I knew what I was getting and so far continueing to enjoy using it.
